We provide the necessary training and instruction to ensure our personnel are knowledgeable of their responsibilities with regard to health and safety. We’ve also partnered with the National Safety Council to provide additional resources and information to support our goal of zero incidents in the workplace.

Safety and Health Policy Statement

The E2 safety culture begins with zero incident performance as an expectation and promotes continuous improvement in safety performance. Zero incident performance means error-free, incident-free project execution: no occupational injuries or illnesses, property damage, adverse community impacts, or environmental impacts. This safety culture does not happen by chance – it is achieved through the integration of safety into all management systems, the project processes, and by individual effort. It is E2’s belief that all incidents are preventable.

E2 believes that company management and supervision are responsible for planning safety into each work task and for avoiding incidents, conditions, and actions that could lead to occupational injuries or illnesses. While the ultimate success of an H&S program depends on the full cooperation of each employee, it is management’s responsibility to ensure that H&S rules and procedures are established and enforced and that effective training programs are in place. Communications, awareness, and recognition reinforce the training effort and provide motivation for the achievement of safety excellence. Monitoring and evaluation of E2’s and its subcontractor’s safety performance provides feedback on the effectiveness of the overall safety program and results in continuous safety program improvement through implementation of lessons learned.

Safety will never be sacrificed for production. Safety must be considered to be a fundamental part of quality control, cost reduction, and job efficiency. Every supervisor will be held accountable for the safety performance of the employees under his or her supervision.

Commitment to Environmental, Safety & Health Excellence

E2 is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for the protection of our most valuable resource – our employees. The safety of our employees is a top priority at all levels of management, ranking in importance above production, quality, schedule, and cost. Every E2 employee and subcontractor is responsible for preventing incidents and eliminating conditions that could lead to occupational injuries and illnesses. E2 recognizes that occupational injuries and illnesses are preventable, and that a high level of safety performance provides long-term benefits, including healthy employees and a productive work environment. Safety is an integral part of the E2 organization and daily project activities, and will not be compromised.

Zero Accident Performance / Integrated Safety Management

E2 recognizes the importance of H&S compliance and accident prevention in all aspects of its activities and fully adopts the concept and goal of Zero Incidents. Work will be performed in the safest possible manner consistent with good work practices. This goal is based on a sincere desire to eliminate personal injuries, occupational illnesses, damage to equipment and property, as well as to protect the general public.

Integrated Safety Management (ISM) will be the mechanism to ensure that the concept and goal of Zero Accidents is fully ingrained into all work activities. The objective is to perform work safely. This approach to integrating H&S requirements into the work planning process will minimize incidents. Constant reminders that all incidents are preventable shall be communicated through pre-job briefings, tool-box meetings and training. Efforts to maintain a safe work environment will be reached by utilizing nine guiding principles:

  • Line management responsibility – Management and supervision have the responsibility to ensure that work is planned and executed with safety as an integral part of the process.
  • Clear roles and responsibilities – Establishing clear roles and responsibilities will allow each member of the organization to understand their role in safety performance and accident investigation. Those responsibilities are listed below.
  • Competence commensurate with responsibilities – Job descriptions exist for each position which clearly state minimum qualifications for the job.
  • Balanced priorities (i.e., cost, production, and schedule do not take precedence over safety) – Resources, both money and personnel, will be judiciously applied to address the most pressing safety and operational concerns.
  • Clear identification of appropriate environmental, safety and health (ES&H) standards and requirements – Regulatory standards such as OSHA, and consensus national standards from ANSI and NFPA will form the basis for safety requirements. In addition, E2 will follow all safety requirements contractually bound to by the client. E2 will also comply with all local, state, or federal codes and standards applicable to our scope of work.
  • Assurance that all work has been reviewed and authorized – the work control system will require sufficient review to ensure that safety was an integral part of the planning process and require operations review and approval for work release prior to commencing work.
  • Management consideration and review for purchase of substances/agents required for work. When less hazardous products are available that meet required specifications, we will select for purchase the products which eliminate and/or minimize exposure to our employees and personnel working in close proximity to our work.
  • Hazard controls tailored to work being performed – It is the intent of E2 that only the controls necessary to eliminate or reduce risk to an acceptable level will be implemented. Implementation of the five ISM core functions below will determine the necessary controls.
  • Employee Involvement – Although E2 line management is responsible for the safety of all employees, each employee is ultimately responsible for the safety of themselves and their co-workers. All employees will participate in the preplanning of work prior to execution, procedure reviews, walk downs of proposed work, preparation of Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), safety meetings and briefings.

The employees and management will further utilize the ISM philosophy by adhering to five core functions to plan and perform safe work activities including:

  • Provide a clear definition of work scope
  • Properly analyze applicable hazards
  • Develop implementing controls
  • Execute the work as specified
  • Implement and participate in a system of feedback and improvement
