Doha, Qatar — John Lucero, P.E., E2’s Vice President of Environmental Remediation Services, and Shyam Nair, Ph.D., E2’s Manager of International Projects, presented a course entitled “Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil and Groundwater Remediation – Selection of Techniques and Optimization” (view course agenda) to representatives of the environmental remediation or operations divisions from the major energy companies operating in Qatar and representatives of the Ministry of the Environment. The course was presented in Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar.
Trinity Environmental Consultancy International, an environmental compliance consultancy and sponsor of the course, invited Mr. Lucero and Dr. Nair to teach the course because of their extensive first-hand expertise in remedy selection, implementation, and optimization and knowledge of the evolution, interpretation, and application of U.S. regulatory requirements.
The course, presented June 11 and 12, 2014, broadly addressed soil and groundwater remediation
and covered development of conceptual site models, numerical modeling, selection of remedial actions and data needed to select a remedy, planning work, and modern field information gathering techniques. Course content was designed to allow the practical application of the concepts presented and included case studies related to the work of the instructors.
“It was exciting to work with the Qataris and contribute to their mission to protect the environment and support sustainable development for future generations. They are rapidly adopting measures to clean up and protect the environment and recognize the relationship of a clean environment to quality of life and economic growth,” said Mr. Lucero.
